  • Starbug

Starbugs are normally used to take crewmembers to nearby planets

Trapped on the wrong side of the galaxy, the crew have been in stasis for 3 million years, waiting for the Cadmium II radiation to subside. Now they’ve been woken, but the Blue Dwarf isn’t exactly how they left it. They have to re-explore the ship they’ve known as their home, but they’re not alone.

This is a story-based roleplaying game based on the sci-fi TV series Red Dwarf. The crew aren’t heroes, they’re just normal smegheads trying to survive in a dangerous universe. Join now and continue the story of the Blue Dwarf.

About

Blue Dwarf is a text-based roleplaying game about the Red Dwarf’s sister ship. We continue the story by simply writing it, and have been around since April 2000. We absolutely welcome new members so if you’re a fan of Red Dwarf and enjoy writing please join us!

Based on…

Red Dwarf is a scifi comedy TV series about the last human Dave Lister woken from stasis 3 million years in the future to find everyone dead.

You’ll love this game if you’re a fan of Red Dwarf, like quirky scifi plots and enjoy writing. Join Now.

The story so far...

We summed up what you need to know into this comic to get you up to speed

After a battle with the corrupt JMC, the Blue Dwarf is sucked into a wormhole to a distant part of the galaxy

But before the battle ended, a JMC spy destroyed the main reactor

Explosion
The explosion caused a leak of lethal Cadmium II, which spread throughout the ship

The crew had no option but to go into stasis

3 million years later, some of the crew were brought out of stasis
But they weren't alone, the ship was now home to mutant creatures
...Evolved creatures...
...and decaying remains of past civilizations that have risen and fallen in the last 3 millenia

So the story continues. Alone in an unfamilliar millennia, the surviving crew are trying to make the most of their lives in a distant, unknown, and pretty smegged-off part of the galaxy

Enjoyed this? Why don’t you join the game and continue this story.

Captain Chrysler wasn’t dead after all, he was time travelling

Posted on March 7th, 2012 in Story news with 0 Comments

So even though we reported here that Jay Chrysler was dead, killed in an explosion that destroyed the Hymenoptera – it looks like he cheated death! Jay reappeared in this post (posted by me because Andy wanted it to be a surprise!) explaining that he’d been working for the S.T.C.P (Space Time Continuum Police) for [...]

Blue Dwarf moves to OngoingWorlds

Posted on October 5th, 2011 in Behind the scenes news with 0 Comments

Leaving Yahoo Groups behind I’ve been running the Blue Dwarf play-by-post game for 11 years, and love it. It was because of my love of play-by-post games (Blue Dwarf in particular) that I started to realise there wasn’t really a decent tool for creating and running a game. People make do with forums or yahoo groups, but these things [...]

Captain Jay Chrysler dies!

Posted on April 14th, 2011 in Story news with 1 Comment

Captain Jay Chrysler has been killed, detonating a bomb that put an end to the Hymenoptera across the galaxy. The bomb that destroyed the Hymenoptera homeworld including the Hymenoptera Queen. This disrupted the Hymenoptera’s hive mind, causing many to drop dead around the galaxy (see the post here). The bomb’s timer was destroyed by Jay’s evil double “Evil Jay“, [...]

Locations on the ship

Places you can visit on the Blue Dwarf

Drive RoomDrive Room

The nerve centre of the entire ship, and the closest thing the Blue Dwarf has to a Star Trek-style “Bridge”, it is where the Command Officers make all the decisions that effect ship operations and the current mission. Crew sit at different desks on a swivelly chair and can work at either the communications, navigation, engineering or scanning computers.

PromenadeThe Promenade

The ship’s shopping centre is one long area lined with shops that runs almost the full length of the ship. After the 3 million years in stasis all these shops are now abandoned, and the Promenade has been inhabited by a collection of evolved rodents called “The Vermin”.

Parrotts barParrotts bar

Parrotts is a bar where most crewmembers go to unwind after a busy work day, or where they go to avoid a busy work day. It’s tatty, it’s a dive, but it’s the best bar on the ship.

Blue MidgetsFlight Deck

This is where all Blue Dwarf’s secondary vehicles like Starbugs and Blue Midgets are parked, and where they are prepared for into going into space. An airlock opens onto a runway tunnel for entering and leaving the ship.

Medical beds Medi-bay

A series of emergency rooms for looking after patients. The Medi-bay is actually detachable and escaped at some point when most of the crew were in stasis, and it’s a mystery where it’s gone. Chief surgeon Dr Keto has also disappeared.

Main reactorEngine decks & Main Reactor

Large machinery takes up much of the rear decks for the engines and vital ship functions. Many of these have been flooded during the time in stasis and have become rusty and unusable. The main reactor is a nuclear core held in place by vital Drive Plates, it was due to these cracking that caused the leak of Cadmium II.

Cargo Decks

There are many huge empty cargo bays on the Blue Dwarf’s lower decks which are waiting to be filled. The cargo decks are wide open spaces used for storing many crates of goods that the Blue Dwarf may be transporting to a destination, or just keeping for spares.

ArboretumArboretum

Originally a botanical garden on the ship, this has now become overgrown in the 3 million years the crew were in stasis and is now the jungle home of some evolved lizards called the Huzards.

Vehicles for away missions

Because of the Blue Dwarf's vast size, smaller shuttles are used to visit nearby planets.

Starbug

Starbug

The Starbug is an all purpose medium sized transport vessel, suitable for transporting passengers or cargo over short or long distances. It has a much longer range than a Blue Midget and has a far larger hold, making this the ideal choice for transportation of goods, or for ferrying people who would like a bit more space than the cramped Blue Midget.

Starbugs are very versatile, the standard model is very basic, but they can be equipped with many different types of weapons, or technology required for the current mission. They can be equipped with a star-drive for long-distance travel, propellers for underwater propulsion, or ground transportation with retractable caterpillar tracks.

Inside there is space for a small medical suite, crew quarters, a kitchen and a four-man bridge.

Blue Midget

Blue Midget

This cute little space transport is perfect for ship-to-surface travel. It walks on two legs, allowing it to step its way over extremely rough terrain with much more ease than most vehicles with wheels. The Blue Midget is a lot more compact than the Starbug, and can fit four people comfortably, or possibly six if people don’t mind sitting on other people’s laps. Blue Midgets are people transports, so only have limited room in the cargo hold for equipment, but this isn’t normally a problem unless people bring a lot of crap or fill it with coolers of beer.

The Blue Midget was never designed to carry weapons, but over the years it has become necessary for the small ship to be equipped with rudimentary laser cannons, bazukoid missiles or gattling guns.

The small ship can’t take too much punishment from enemy assaults, and the walking mechanism can get easily broken. Most of the Blue Midgets assigned to the Blue Dwarf walk with some kind of a limp.

Space Eagle

SpaceEagle

This curvy small craft was designed and created using Space Corps military technology for attack and defence in mind. Space Eagles are nimble and fast and are loaded with the latest weaponry.

Far smaller than a Starbug or Blue Midget, Space Eagles only have seats for two people. One pilot and a passenger, who can help out by controlling the craft’s weapons.

Prototype

The Blue Dwarf was originally issued one Space Eagle as a prototype craft, providing that the Navigation Department gave information back to the Space Corps about it’s reliability. In 2106, Space Eagles became widely available and the Blue Dwarf was given an entire wing of Space Eagles.
